The rocky plateau Lastoni di Formin in the heart of the Ampezzo Dolomites slopes abruptly towards the northwest, in the direction of Passo Giau. When viewed from the pass, it appears as a striking rock wall that is not as rugged and jagged as most Dolomite peaks but rather resembles a man-made stone wall that ascends straight to the top. To the east, the plateau is bounded by the Croda-da-Lago group. The panoramic view is breathtaking:
From the north, in a clockwise direction: Tofane, Hohe Gaisl, Monte Cristallo, in the foreground, the Corda-da-Lago group with Cima Basso da Lago, Croda da Lago, Cima Ambrizzola, behind it, the Sorapis, then the pyramid-shaped Antelao, amidst meadows, the Becco di Mezzodi, followed by the majestic Pelmo, the Civetta, the Marmolata, the Sella massif, and the Nuvolau group.
