Nestled beneath the eastern face of Cima Ambrizzola, at an elevation of 2046 meters above sea level, you'll discover the picturesque mountain lake known as Lago Federa (sometimes mistakenly called Lago da Lago). As autumn approaches, the larch trees surrounding the lake undergo a stunning transformation, painting the landscape with vibrant hues of yellow and orange. At the southeastern tip of the lake, the Rifugio Croda da Lago refuge can be found, partly obscured by the trees in the image. This enchanting lake has evolved into a highly sought-after photography spot, especially for Instagram enthusiasts, within the breathtaking Ampezzo Dolomites. The view from the northern shore, gazing across the lake as it gracefully meanders towards the striking peak of Becco di Mezzodi, holds a special place in the hearts of photographers and Instagram users alike.
Of particular interest is the lake's water level, which remains unwavering throughout the year, even in the absence of inflows and outflows. This remarkable stability is sustained by subterranean springs that continuously replenish the lake with crystal-clear water.
