At the lake Tovel in the Brenta Adamello Nature Park. The alpine lake is about a kilometer long and half a kilometer wide and is the second largest lake in the Dolomites of Brenta. It is located at 1177 m above sea level, its lowest point measured 38.5 m. The lake is surrounded by the beautiful Brenta Dolomites: Rocca Cima, Cima Sassara, Flavona Cima, Cima Vagliana, Pietra Grande... Until 1964 in the warmer summer months the lake covers on a dark red color. Because of that it is also called the "red sea". The color is caused by a microalgae. Unfortunately, today this phenomenon exists no longer, probably because of pollution. Using a purification plant people try to recover the effect.
