The pilgrimage Weißenstein (Italian: Pietralba) with the church and the monastery Maria Weißenstein. The picture shows the west view. The monastery is located at 1,520 m altitude, near the village Petersberg. Maria Weißenstein was founded in 1553. The Virgin Mary appeared to the miner Leonhard Weißensteiner and cured him from madness. To thank the Virgin he built a chapel. The monastery, which houses the image of the Sorrowful Mother of God, is now inhabited by the Fathers of the Servite. In July 1988, Pope John Paul II was attended to. Maria Weißenstein is not only a beautiful place of pilgrimage, but also a great starting point or destination for hiking. At the car park behind the monastery you have a great view of the Dolomites with the "Rosengarten" and the "Latemar".
